Super White
Solo performance, Asiatopia International Performance Art Festival 2023, Bangkok Arts and Culture Centre.
A precursor and creative development for BKKDW and Tokyo Biennale. This solo performance used an extra-large ‘floater’ tire from a palm tree plantation as a conceptual apparatus for exploring embedded connections between the body, urban infrastructure, and social / ecological collapse.
Super White attempts to ask itself how ‘whiteness’ becomes a surface of inscription and removal, a lathering systemic conflagration of 3 ecologies – social, environmental, subjective. Rolling water inside the rim, rubbing ‘Super White’ suntan lotion through the zigzag groove on the tire tread, washing my t-shirt, gargling and vocalizing the interior, walking inside, climbing on top to bounce on the rubber tread.
